Tudor rooflines, Scioto water and Golden Bear Saturdays

Awesome stay guide is a curated map of where to sleep in and around Upper Arlington, with honest rates and real photography rather than stock renders.

Those nearby places are separate municipalities, not neighbourhoods of Upper Arlington: Grandview Heights, Marble Cliff, Dublin, Hilliard, Worthington and the Ohio State campus fringe of Columbus.

Old Arlington is the reason people come. Walk Cambridge Boulevard, Arlington Avenue and Roxbury Road on a September evening and you get slate roofs, brick gutters and hundred-year oaks laid out by the Thompson brothers…

Before you book

The questions we get most, answered with this month’s numbers.

01 How cheap can hotels in Upper Arlington actually get?

Upper Arlington is a residential suburb with almost no hotel stock of its own, so the cheap beds sit minutes outside it. In January and February expect $70 to $95 a night in Hilliard, near the Cemetery Road interchange with I-270, and along the Olentangy River Road corridor by Ohio State. Grandview Heights and Dublin run $120 to $160 in the same weeks.

02 When is the best time to visit Upper Arlington?

January through early March is cheapest, with rates 35 to 45 percent below autumn, though January highs hover near 37F and the Scioto looks grey. Late April to early June and mid-September to late October are the pleasant months. Peak is Ohio State football season and the first week of June, when the Memorial Tournament fills every room within ten miles.

03 Where should I stay for a first trip?

Grandview Heights, five minutes south of Tremont Center, suits most people: walkable Grandview Avenue restaurants and the Grandview Yard hotels around $130 to $170. The Lane Avenue and Ohio State campus edge is the closest bed to Old Arlington, good for game weekends. Dublin and Bridge Park, twelve minutes northwest, suits families and anyone here for golf.

04 Do I need a car in Upper Arlington?

Yes. Bring or rent one. SR-315 puts you downtown in about twelve minutes, and John Glenn Columbus International is twelve miles east, 20 to 25 minutes, roughly $30 to $40 by rideshare. COTA buses touch the edges of the suburb at $2.00 a ride or $4.50 for an all-day pass, but headways are long and Tremont Road is not a transit street.

05 What actually spikes hotel prices here?

Ohio Stadium sits under three miles from Tremont Center. On the seven or so home Saturdays each autumn, rates near Upper Arlington double or triple and two-night minimums appear by midweek. Early June brings the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in nearby Dublin, founded by Jack Nicklaus, who learned the game at Scioto Country Club here. Book those dates three months out.

06 What does every booking removes a tonne of CO2 mean?

IMPT funds one verified tonne of carbon removal for every hotel booking made through this site, at no extra cost to you. Same room, same rate you would pay booking anywhere else, same cancellation terms. One night in Grandview Heights at $140 funds one tonne. You are not paying a green surcharge, and nothing is added at checkout.
